Our office uses the Galileos Comfort Plus 3D CBCT (cone beam computed tomography) Imaging system. The imaging system is a special type of digital x-ray machine that takes thousands of dental computed tomography (CT) sections of the head and neck in one scan. The final image shows three dimensional (3-D) images of dental structures, soft tissues, nerve paths and bone in the craniofacial region. Images obtained with cone beam CT allow for more precise treatment planning because the image can be rotated, viewed at different depths, and manipulated to show the structures in more detail. Due to the digital nature of this imaging system, the exposure to radiation is decreased dramatically when compared to traditional panoramic x-rays.
